I Have Something to Say

HEY!!!!! I Have Something to Say!!!!

Have you ever felt the urge to chime in a conversation, or to post a snarky comment on a FaceBook post?

Do you feel like you have so much to say, share and contribute but you are afraid to be vulnerable or feel like nobody would listen or even care?

Are you afraid people won`t agree, they might reject you or even that people will want to hurt you for what you believe or stand for.

I can relate.

Back in the day, I`m talking anything prior to 2000 ish…. I had zero filters in my speech. In fact, I cussed probably worse than most Marines; and was proud of the fact. I even had a button to prove that I could go “From Zero to Bi#ch” in nothing flat.

I had no problem saying what I thought. It left me feeling better but the carnage I left in my tracks I`m sure took its toll.

After I rededicated my life to Christ on Nov 28th 1999, God started teaching me that what comes out of my mouth is a reflection of what is in my heart. And what I had been speaking was full of hurt, hate; bitterness, frustration; jealousy, animosity; judgement, pain; sadness…. you get the idea.

I have come a long way in how I speak to and about others over the past 15 years. But truth be told, I still find it hard most of the time to bite my tongue.

keep my mouth shut

So many times I find myself about to speak my mind, either in conversation or on a social post and I will start down that slippery slope of saying what I really think or feel and then, I either do the “stop-change-start” in conversation or delete-delete-delete my post.

But sometimes, I wonder if what I want to say in the moment is what actually needs to be said to make a difference or if it is coming from someplace in my heart that that still needs to be examined.

The answer can always be found in my motive for saying it.

I can tell you this…. I often feel that I am not living a fully self expressed life. I am fearful to speak boldly to others often times. Now, if we have an agreement that we will speak in that manner to each other, I have no problem saying what needs to be said.

While I  believe we should not give our mouths free reign to speak every thought, I also believe that holding back how you really feel and sitting on those emotions or thoughts and not delivering a communication can often times be just as damaging.

So….. I have decided to relaunch my blog and get all these thoughts I have out of my head and out into the world; where my prayer is that someone, somewhere, will need to hear exactly what it is that I have to say; and that I can make a difference and inspire transformation.

I want to #BeFearlesslyAuthentic; but also, not speak in a manner that is damaging to myself or others.

I want to #BeAboutTheFathersBusiness.

So, I decided to ask God for help in this area; because He is the Author and Perfecter of my faith; before I just go about my own business.

Here is just some of what God has to say on the importance our speech.

Zechariah 8:16 But this is what you must do: Tell the truth to each other. Render verdicts in your courts that are just and that lead to peace. ( This is what our society is all up in arms about right now… but people want “justice” or “personal rights” that go against God`s law. I know, some people don`t believe in God, but we live in a Republic not a Democracy. Read more about the difference here: Republic vs Democracy)

Ephesians 4:25 Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another. (Speak the truth in LOVE)

Proverbs 18:21 – Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. (We can either encourage and lift up or ridicule and tear down)

1 Peter 3:10 – For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: (In other words don’t speak hate)

Proverbs 15:1 – A soft answer turns away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger. ( Don`t be a complainer or backbiter)

Proverbs 10:19 – When there are many words, sin is unavoidable, but the one who controls his lips is wise.

Ephesians 4:29 – Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

Matthew 12:36-37 – But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. (That means gossip, complaining, or just talking for the sake of hearing your own voice)

Proverbs 12:18 – There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. (Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can do even more damage if used unwisely)

James 3:6 – And the tongue is a fire, the very world of iniquity; the tongue is set among our members as that which defiles the entire body, and sets on fire the course of our life, and is set on fire by hell.

James 1:26 – If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain. ( OUCH… I really have some serious work to do here)

Proverbs 15:28 – The heart of the godly thinks carefully before speaking; the mouth of the wicked overflows with evil words. (Pausing gives you time to “aim” your remarks where they’ll do the most mutual good)

Proverbs 15:4 – Gentle words are a tree of life; a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit. (Words build up or break down)

Philippians 2:14 – Do all things without murmurings and disputings: (Whistle while you work !)

Proverbs 17:27 – He that hath knowledge spareth his words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit. (You will know a man by his speech)

James 3:8 – But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. (That does not mean it is impossible, it means you need Divine guidance to do so)

Proverbs 13:3 – Those who guard their lips preserve their lives, but those who speak rashly will come to ruin. (Your words create your world)

James 3:5-8 – Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasts great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindles! (It can shine a light or burn a place down)

Leviticus 19:16 – Do not go about spreading slander among your people. Do not do anything that endangers your neighbor’s life: I am the LORD. (That means He means business on this one)

For me, I can sum these all up this one:

  •  Psalms 19:14 – Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer. (This is my desire always).

I  am continuing my journey of Living a Transformed Life and I pray that I encourage, inspire and motivate you to live a transformed life too.

Please follow along and engage with me in the conversation along the way. Monologues are boring.

Be Blessed,
